WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – Oct. 5, 2011 – Dan Wiesner used the high side of Weedsport Speedway on Wednesday night to earn his first DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series victory of the season. (Alex Bruce photo)

Points leader Tim Sears Jr. and Don Spatorico led the 30-car field to the green flag with Sears driving into the early lead.

Championship contender Josh Van Brocklin ran into early problems, as heavy contact with the Turn 1 wall ended his night on the first lap.

On the restart, Wiesner found some bite on the top side of the speedway as he charged from 10th to 5th by lap-4. He continued his march forward with an outside pass of Cody McPherson with 10 laps complete.

Sears, Spatorico and Adam Hilton built a comfortable lead over the field by the time they entered lapped traffic on Lap 17. Sears struggled to negotiate traffic, but another caution on Lap 24 gave the leaders clear track.

It also allowed Wiesner to have a shot at the race leaders. Restarting in the fourth position, Wiesner immediately moved from fourth to second and set his sights on race-leader Sears.

Wiesner pulled to the outside of Sears with 5 laps to go. After a valiant effort from the defending DIRTcar Sportman Modified Series champion, Wiesner took the lead. From there, he drove away and picked up his first DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series win of the season.

“The Lap 24 restart saved us. We were good but didn’t have enough time to catch the leaders,” remarked an ecstatic Wiesner in victory lane. “I just really want to thank all the guys and my sponsors.”
