NAPA Super DIRT Week Moves to Oswego Speedway in 2016

New Stage, Still Racing’s Biggest Party

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – July 14, 2016 – NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week, Oct. 5-9, will move to the historic Oswego Speedway in 2016.

Oswego, a historic paved, half-mile track 35 miles north of Syracuse, will be covered with dirt for the first time since 1952 to accommodate the Napa 300 and all of the week’s events and festivities.

“With support from Governor Cuomo, the State of New York, and incredible fans and sponsors, we are excited to write a new chapter in the history of Racing’s Biggest Party,” said DIRTcar Racing CEO Brian Carter. “We’ve developed a great relationship with John Torrese and his team over the past several months, and Super DIRT Week is going to be a lot of fun at Oswego this year.”

In addition to assisting with the three-week process of covering the track with some 9,600 cubic yards of clay, the State of New York and DIRTcar are also making improvements to the grandstands and camping facilities at Oswego. The investment in the speedway will not only benefit NAPA Super DIRT Week but future use of the facility, including Oswego’s “Classic,” the third largest motorsports event in New York behind only the NASCAR weekend at Watkins Glen and Super DIRT Week.

NAPA Super DIRT Week is an annual economic driver for Central New York. The event attracts 70,000 fans and competitors and contributes $12 million to the local economy. This year that will strongly benefit Oswego County and the City of Oswego.

“We’re thrilled to have the event here,” said NAPA Syracuse Sales Manager John Provo. “This is a great event and a great venue, both pillars of the Central New York motorsport legacy.”

Following the demolition of the Moody Mile on the property of the New York State Fairgrounds, which had been the home of NAPA Super DIRT Week since its inception, an agreement was struck between DIRTcar Racing and the State of New York to keep the annual event in New York for the next 10 years. As part of the agreement, Super DIRT Week was committed to the Central New York Raceway Park (CNYRP) under the condition that the facility be fully completed. Committed to keeping the event in New York, the state agreed to assist in moving the event to Oswego if needed and is putting that plan in action in recognition of the importance of motorsport to the State of New York.

“While we are disappointed CNYRP will not yet be ready for 2016, we understand the challenges of building a new facility,” Carter said. “Glenn Donnelly’s vision for CNYRP will be an incredible addition to the racing landscape in Central New York when complete.”

The format and schedule for NAPA Super DIRT Week at Oswego Speedway will remain the same as previous years with on-track action every day from October 5 through 9 at Oswego, including a return of Friday Night Lights. Other municipalities will get in on the action with traditional nighttime events slated for Weedsport Speedway on Wednesday, October 5; Brewerton Speedway in Central Square, NY on Thursday, October 6; and the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series will be racing at Fulton Speedway in Fulton, NY on Saturday, October 8.

All fans that placed deposits will be contacted to select their seats and camping spots in the order of their deposit through July 25. Tickets and camping spots will then be made available to all on August 8. More information will be available to fans at SuperDIRTWeekOnline.com after Friday, July 15, or by calling 844-DIRT-TIX (347-8849).
