NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week Stars to Battle CNY Media at Pole Position Raceway on Sept. 24

Hearn, Sheppard, Tomkins tackle kart road course at Destiny USA

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sept. 16, 2013 – NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week is always full of twists and turns, but they’ve never been like this.

On Tuesday, Sept. 24, in one of the final tune-ups for “Racing’s Biggest Party” on Oct. 9-13 at the New York State Fairgrounds’ Moody Mile, Super DIRTcar Series champions Brett Hearn, Matt Sheppard and Gary Tomkins will take on many of the biggest names in the Central New York media at Pole Position Raceway at Destiny USA in Syracuse.

Pole Position Raceway features European-style karts competing on a quarter-mile indoor road course. It’s a neutral ground for Big-Block Modified drivers Hearn, Sheppard and Tomkins, who normally race on dirt ovals against each other, to take on media celebrities such as CNY Central Chief Meteorologist Wayne Mahar, YNN Sports Director Mark Larson, and 95X Morning Show hosts Robinson and Newman. In addition, competitors from WSYR Channel 9, the Syracuse Post-Standard, The Rebel 105.9 FM, and Area Auto Racing News, among others, have confirmed participation.

The winning media outlet will be recognized during opening ceremonies for the Syracuse 200 Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified championship on Sunday, Oct. 13, at the New York State Fairgrounds.

Adding to the synergy, Pole Position Raceway will be the sponsor of the pole awards for all four of the feature events during NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week.

“We’re very pleased to participate both as a media event and at Super DIRT Week,” said Pole Position Raceway’s Karen Davis-Farage. “We’ve only been at Destiny USA for 10 months, but it’s been a very successful 10 months. We’re really trying to integrate into the community, make sure people know we support the exciting opportunities for racing within the center state. We look forward to providing a great venue on Sept. 24.”

Fans are encouraged to come out and watch the showdown at Pole Position Raceway at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24. One lucky fan will win two tickets to the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified Syracuse 200 at NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week.

“We’re excited to bring together some of the biggest names in Super DIRTcar Series racing as well as the mainstream and motorsports media celebrities in New York at the perfect venue to test their skills and yield an ultimate winner,” DIRTcar Racing’s Jeff Hachmann said. “We’re also thrilled to begin a partnership with a group that has a nationwide brand and is extremely committed to utilizing motorsports events to build its following.”
